My school bus driver

Fred was my bus driver over 30 years ago. My sister and I were among the first kids on his bus each morning, of course making us among the last off each evening. How Fred ever survived driving that bus in the 80's is beyond me. We were a wild bunch... He always greeted each kid with a good morning and that old smile of his was funny. When I learned of his passing I set outside and thought of all the kids that road our bus back in the day. I remembered how he put a radio and speakers on the bus so we kids could have music, Fred was a cool guy! Even after my group of friends got their drivers license and each one of us had a car we still road that old bus from time to time setting right behind our old bus driver. Fred made our morning commute over those old back roads of Indian mound fun. Tonight, as its nearly midnight, I smile and cry because I got to know a great guy, he was much more then a bus driver to each of us kids, Fred Mann was a friend a story teller and a bad singer. The song Footlose is stuck in my head.
