Obituary for Luther Harrison Mathis

Mr. Luther Harrison Mathis, age 81, of Big Rock, TN, passed away, Friday, April 24, 2015, at his home. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Monday at Anglin Funeral Home with Rev. William Gray and Rev. David Whitehead officiating. Burial will be in the Wofford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 pm Sunday at Anglin Funeral Home and from 12:00 pm until the time of the service on Monday. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
He was born May 17, 1933, in Stewart County, son of the late James W. and Cynthia R. Taylor Mathis. Mr. Mathis was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran and a member of the Big Rock Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Annie Yarbrough. Survivors include his wife, Jean Mathis, Big Rock, son, Michael Mathis, Big Rock, step children Donna Settle, Dover, Dale Sykes, Dover, Billy Sykes, Marathon, FL, Tim Sykes, Big Rock, TN, brothers, James W. Mathis, Granite City, IL, Larry Mathis, Big Rock, Glindon Mathis, Granite City, IL, Roland Mathis, Dover, sister, Ollie Bryant, Big Rock, eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. The family requests in lieu of other memorials donations be made to the Wofford Cemetery Fund c/o Regions Bank, Dover, TN.
