John “Pa” Elliott Joiner, 80 of Dover, TN passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Henry Co. Medical Center, Paris, TN. He was born June 19, 1935 in Dover, TN son of the late Herschel and Maggie Elliott Joiner. He served his country for 22 years in the U.S. Navy, during which time he served on the aircraft carrier USS Randolph CVS13 and the Dodge County LST #722. He retired with the rank of Master Chief. He also retired after 14 years of Civil Service at Fort Campbell, KY. Mr. Joiner was a member of Big Rock Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, a member of Lineport Masonic Lodge #207 for 50 years, and Iron Mountain Chapter #412 Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas “Buck” Joiner. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Virginia Thomason Joiner, Dover, TN, son, Kendall Joiner (Sandy), Hopkinsville, KY, daughter, Starla Bogard )(Louis), Henderson, TN, four precious grandchildren, Susan Joiner, Karina Bogard, Dylan Joiner, Valerie Bogard, his loving sister, Ann Manners, Dover, TN and many special nieces and nephews. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and lived his life for God and was dedicated to his family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26 from 4-8:00 pm with a Masonic and Eastern Star service at 7:00 pm at Anglin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 27 at 2:00 pm with Rev. David Whitehead officiating at Anglin Funeral Home, burial to follow in the Mt. View Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Dylan Joiner, Bobby Joiner, Joe Joiner, Rick Joiner, Bob Wallace, Lynn Harris, Daniel Thomason and Tim Harris.
