Joseph Cornelius  Dougherty
Joseph C. Dougherty, 80, of Dover, died on January 2, 2016, after a short illness. Services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Dover. He was born on April 14, 1935, in Pennsylvania to Edwin and Ella Dougherty. He was a communicant of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Neil, as he was known by his family members, retired from Ingersoll Rand after more than 40 years as a machinist. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and a volunteer firefighter with Engine Company No. 1 in Sayre, Pennsylvania. As a member of these organizations, Neil helped to provide opportunities and valuable experiences to many young people in his community. He gave generously of himself to family, friends and charitable causes. He is survived by his nieces Patricia Hover of Hamburg, New York, and Kathleen Savory (Robert Wright) of Keedysville, Maryland; nephews David Hover (Barbara) of Buffalo, New York, Kevin Savory (Elizabeth) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Russell Savory (Lelia) of Memphis, Tennessee; and six grandnieces and -nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Mary Jeanne Hover, formerly of Hamburg, New York, and Marlene Savory, formerly of Wormleysburg, Pennsylvania; his nephew Michael Savory, formerly of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; and his cousin William Billman, formerly of Bumpus Mills. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
