Condolences

Condolence: I know it's late to leave a message, but tonight SFC Mentry was in my thoughts as I communicated to my subordinates the same lessons he taught me. How to be a leader, how to be a teacher, how to follow through and follow up to ensure the mission is complete. He is my golden standard for the right man for the right job, and none exemplified the true subject matter expert more than him. I miss him deeply and am proud to have worked with him. Until Valhallah.

Condolence: SSG Mentry, as I served with him, was a caring , compassionate, and driven leader. A man who got things done, especially in Chinook maintenance. As a new WO1, Mike introduced me to how it’s done right! My family sends our thoughts and prayers. SSG Mentry touched many lives that reach far beyond his purview. RIP my friend!

Condolence: Lots of memories of Mike. Great family. Remember Heather standing on his chest with him holding her hands. She must've been about 3. Odin was tiny. Said something like Hey Heather jump up and down on daddy's chest. She did.... Mike told me I would pay for that. He will be missed. Rest in Peace. For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. Romans 14:7‭-‬9 May God bless, comfort, and keep all those left behind.

Condolence: Big Mike was a rock and a confident inspiration of what can be accomplished with posative thinking, some sweat and " i know a guy" resources. I cant count how many times Mike pulled us out of a jam down range with something he come across and "squireled" away. He knew when something was going to be needed, later. I remember during 10th CABS rotation to iraq, Mike was the PC at 3/10 GSAB. I had an aircraft down for a rare part that had a long lead time to get. Someone said,"If anyone knew where one was, Big Mike would know" I drove over an hour through the desert to see him. I needed to get my aircraft up and back to my Task Force AO. Mike just laughed, pushed back from his desk, pulled out an old ammo can from under the desk. Opened it and pulled out the part I needed. He said, "I herd you were coming". He gave me a hard time, gave the part and said I owe him. Eveyone I knew, that knew Mike owed him at one point or another. That was Mike, he fixed what was broken. He was a bull and didn't accept "no"or " this can't be done" as an option. He was resourceful, strong and confident. He was a tough Battle Buddy that you wanted in the fox hole next to you. He brought order to chaos and instilled reassurance to everyone around him. I'll miss you brother, till we meet again. Above The Best! Ducit Amor Patriae Criag Starr

Condolence: Mentry was a man who was larger than life and hard as steel. To this day I have never known an NCO that could hold a candle to him. Until Valhalla.

Condolence: Sharon, we've lit a candle to honor Michael, on behalf of the entire congregation at Walnut Grove Baptist Church. We have lifted you up in prayer and will continue to do so. Karen was the young woman who was at the cashier line when your father-in-law came with the news. I was two carts behind her and much closer to you. Thank you for the privilege of embracing you and praying for you in that brutal moment. I wanted to stay with you but I also knew that you needed to process the unthinkable. The cross in your pocket that you received anonymously earlier in the week was not coincidental. The cross that I shared with you was the confidence that I had in knowing that God was with you and will remain with you through this grieving period and the days that follow. I would be honored to be 'there' for you if I can bring anything good and honorable to you, as would others in our congregation. You are being prayed over. God knows your heart and your needs, and we trust that He will never leave you. Be blessed in knowing that as a Christian that you will join Michael for Eternity according to His Plan. For now, take care of yourself. He has you in His arms.
