Dorothy Roberts ‘Momma Dot’ Hancock, age 91, of Bumpus Mills, TN passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Tennova Medical Center. She was born on July 21, 1924 in White House, TN daughter of George and Blanche McCoy Roberts and James Edward and Laura Pugh. She graduated from Dover High School, class of 1942. Momma Dot was a member of the Bumpus Mills Church of Christ and a devoted homemaker. She was always welcoming to anyone who came to visit. Cold biscuits, cornbread, and conversation were abound.
In addition to both sets of her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard R. “Snooks” Hancock. Survivors include her sons, George Hancock (Rae), Sylva, NC, Charlie Hancock (Jennifer), Bumpus Mills, TN, daughters, Edwina Shemwell (Jimmy), Bumpus Mills, TN, Bonnie Hancock, Clarksville, TN, grandchildren, Laura Shemwell, Zach Shemwell, Sarah Shemwell-Waynick, Timothy Williams, Cassie Hancock, Kayla, Hilliary, and Emily Hancock, great grandchildren, Kathryn Keatts, Ally Shemwell, and Hunter Williams.
The funeral service will be at 12:00 pm Monday at the Bumpus Mills Church of Christ, with Bro. Phil Dunn officiating. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of service Monday at the Bumpus Mills Church of Christ. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of other memorials, donations may be made to the Greenhill Cemetery or Ezell Cemetery care of F&M Bank, Bumpus Mills, TN.
